Design Your Life for Health
Imagine a life designed for your health. What would that feel like? What would that look like? Can you imagine that you have a blank piece of paper and you are the architect. Your task; design a life for you from scratch. What things would you include? What would you exclude? What would you design for yourself if you were to truly consider a life designed specifically for you, for your individual health & wellbeing?
One of the biggest turning points in my own health was when I realised that being healthy was not a destination I was going to get to. No matter how many things I eliminated from my diet, no matter how many extra kilometres I ran each week, I was never going to get to that elusive destination of being “healthy”, and then everything would be ok. What I realised, through exhaustive lists of do’s and don'ts and must and must nots, is that healthy is actually a way of life, and furthermore it is a way of the mind. It’s not about doing things for a short time and getting healthy. But rather, it is about your approach, your daily habits, and your daily patterns that make you who you are, and therefore, that create health.
A Nepalese experience
An experience that helped me understand this was trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Trekking through the villages in the mountains, I got to see and feel the way of these people. Most of these people are Buddhist and what I noticed, is that for them, Buddhism is a way of life and it is who they are. They don’t subscribe to a religion and believe in some external force that will help and save them. They live a way of life that upholds the philosophies of care, compassion and good karma. It is second nature to them and it comes through in everything they do, the way they work, the way they interact with others and the way they interact with the land.
This taught me a lot about my approach to being “healthy”. Health was not going to be achieved by doing things and restricting myself from things. Healthy is actually a way of life that I choose to live every day. My lifestyle; the choices I make everyday, the food I eat, the thoughts I have, the things I do and the movement I choose all shape who I am and how I feel. On top of that, having a meaningful occupation, meaningful relationships, a deep respect for my body and mind and an open hearted approach to life, truly supports my happiness & wellness.
Design Your Life for Health
With this understanding, I have designed my life specifically for me and my health ever since. Sure it has taken some hard work and some uncomfortable “moments”, but there is not one part of my life that I have not mindfully considered and chosen the best options for me in all 6 pillars of health; MIND + BODY, MOVEMENT + EATING, WORK + PLAY. I literally took a blank piece of paper and sketched out what I wanted and what I knew would work for me. The result? I feel great, I sleep well, I am in love, I have a calm mind, I have energy, I love my work, I have meaningful relationships and I am not afraid to reassess and change something if it no longer works for me. My lifestyle would not suit everyone, but it suits me.
So I ask you again, can you imagine what life would be like for you if you designed it for your health? Do you dare to imagine?
My Design Your Life for Health - 30 Day Program is born out of the experiences I have had both personally and in my profession to get you to reshape, rework and rebuild a life that oozes health and vitality!
The program starts with a Comprehensive Initial Lifestyle Health Audit that will identify which key areas you need to focus your changes. This can be completed in person or via Skype depending on your location. You will receive weekly challenges or tasks in each of the 6 pillars of health and you will also do a Lifestyle Detox......out with the old & stale, in with the new & innovative. You will be held accountable to the changes along the way.
The program is designed for you to make lasting lifestyle changes that you can and will sustain, rather than throwing out after the 30 days finishes and returning to old habits!
